Scooters have been a fun way to get around town for years. Scooters are seen on neighborhood sidewalks and college campuses. They're a mode of transportation for kids and adults of all ages. Today the word “scooter” can mean more than the push kind we all knew as kids. There are also electric and gas scooters. These more advanced models are an economical alternative to cars. Here's a quick overview of the types of scooters on the market today.
Push
The push scooter is ideal for young and old alike. Push scooters are
the least expensive type of scooter because they involve very basic technology.
There are several types of push scooters. The most popular is the one platform
scooter. On this type, one foot is planted on the platform and the other
one scoots (similar to skateboards). Both feet can fit on this type of scooter,
but it is tight. A slightly modified version of this scooter is one with two
platforms for the feet. This type of scooter is perfect for children. It is
more stable and much like a tricycle because it has a wheel below each platform.
The third type of push scooter is the trick scooter. These are designed for
performing tricks and are very popular among middle-schoolers and teenagers.
Electric
For a faster ride, the electric scooter is a great choice. These battery-operated
vehicles are also for children and adults. Models for children travel at speeds
up to 10 mph. For adults or advanced riders, there are also models that reach
20 mph. Although electric scooters are easy
to ride, they do take some practice. Most electric scooters are intended for
flat, paved surfaces. For optimal safety on bumps or uneven surfaces, consider
a scooter with large wheels.
Gas
There are many types of gas scooters.
Some are simple in design and look much like the push scooter, but are gas operated.
There are others that are more like small motorcycles. Some gas scooters travel
at similar speeds as the electric ones, without the hassle of charging a battery.
Others travel at speeds of 30-35 mph.
Whether you're using one as a means of transportation or as a fun pasttime,
a scooter is a favorite toy for people of all ages.
